How did you get involved with WRISE?
One of my coworkers at my first job was in the local Chicago chapter, and she recommended that I look into it. Especially as a young, new professional looking to expand her network, it opened my eyes to the greater Chicago and national renewables ecosystem in which I could take part. Due to my experiences with the inspired women of the Chicago chapter, I decided to start a Utah chapter when a new job opportunity took me to Salt Lake City.

What advice would you give a woman trying to start her career in renewables?
Put yourself out there and talk to as many industry professionals as possible. It’s not a huge industry, and you never know what doors will open from any given conversation. The renewables field is also constantly evolving, and there are so many ways to get involved – from the non-profit world to development, from research to local government – and the more conversations you have, the more opportunities you’ll discover.

How did you get started in this field?
I was lucky to have been captivated by the industry from when I was very young. When I was 11, my dad had 11.4 kW of solar PV installed on our roof; it was the largest residential installation in New England at the time. I immediately took an interest, and I sought out renewable-specific projects during high school and college as often as I could. It took me awhile to figure out which subset of the industry I wanted to pursue, but eventually, I interned with a solar developer and have since continued my path in solar & wind development and execution.

What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
You haven’t lived until you’ve had the Gooey Butter Cake flavor from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

What’s your favorite sports team?
NY Giants! It’s often a tough life, but I’m still clinging to the Super Bowl XLII victory against the then-undefeated Patriots.
